Vitamins and Minerals You Need for Dental Health

We know that certain foods and beverages can cause stains and tooth decay, but we often overlook the importance of vitamins and minerals for our dental health.

Your overall health is connected to what you eat, but it also plays a critical role in your dental health and oral hygiene. There are certain minerals and vitamins that you should implement into your diet for your oral health.

What vitamins and minerals do you need for good dental health?

Calcium and Dental Health

Our jaws and teeth are primarily made of calcium. Without the right levels of calcium in your diet, you may start to develop gum disease or tooth decay. Calcium is most commonly found in milk and dairy products, but you can also absorb calcium through certain beans, broccoli, nuts and oysters.

Iron and Dental Health

If you are suffering from mouth sours, that is an indication that you do not have enough iron in your diet. You can also suffer from tongue inflammation. To add iron in your diet, you can eat red meat, bran cereals and some nuts will offer iron as well.

Vitamin C

Excessively consuming acidic drinks can cause damage to your teeth, but your body requires a certain level of Vitamin C to function properly. If you have a deficiency, you may start to experience bleeding gums and loose teeth. You can absorb Vitamin C through raw red peppers, sweet potatoes and oranges.

Vitamin D

Vitamin D helps you absorb calcium, which is obviously important to your dental health. If you do not have enough Vitamin D in your diet, you may feel the following side effects: a burning mouth sensation, a metallic taste in your mouth, a bitter taste in your mouth or mouth dryness. To add more Vitamin D into your diet, you can eat egg yolks, drink milk and eat fish. Small amounts of sunshine can also help your body.

Balanced Diets for Dental Health

Your body will suffer anytime you deprive yourself of key nutrients, so it’s best to view food as fuel and energy. People often suffer vitamin and mineral deficiencies when they are trying certain diets or eliminating certain food groups completely. It’s crucial for your dental health that you absorb key mineral and vitamins, so work on creating a balanced diet rather than focusing on diet trends.
