Let’s say for the sake of argument that you made a new year’s resolution. And let’s say you meant to keep it, but it had to do with going to the dentist. So you made every excuse you could to not follow through with it. If that’s the case, you probably have anxiety about visiting the dentist. But relaxation dentistry may be able to help.
Who Benefits From It?
As we noted above, people with anxiety about visiting the dentist can benefit from this treatment. It’ll make your next visit so much less nerve-wracking, especially if it has been years since the last time you saw a dentist. But if you have a low pain threshold, relaxation dentistry can also help you.
Types of Relaxation Dentistry
At Olney Dental, we’ll use nitrous oxide. We will also use moderate sedation, depending on your circumstances and if we believe it will help you. You might recognize nitrous oxide by its more common name: laughing gas. The effects of the laughing gas shouldn’t last too long once your visit is done, so you should be able to get yourself home without too much worry.
However, moderate sedation used for relaxation dentistry is a bit different. You will be sleepy and groggy once it’s done, and you may want someone to take you home when you are done.
In this state, you probably shouldn’t drive.
Safety Concerns
Of course, we’ll understand if you have concerns about your safety. After all, anesthetics aren’t for everyone. For instance, you might have an allergy to them. If you do, be sure to let us know before you come in. But at the same time, you can trust us that any relaxation dentistry method we use is as safe and low-risk as possible. You may need someone to accompany you for more than just moral support, and that’s fine. In fact, we encourage it. We want you to get home safely and let the sedation wear off so you can enjoy a healthy mouth and a set of clean teeth.
