Dealing with Tooth Discoloration

No matter how self-conscious you are about it, there are solutions. Here’s how you can deal with tooth discoloration.

If you want to make your teeth whiter, then you might have to change your diet. You don’t need to worry about tooth discoloration. No matter how self-conscious you are about it, there are solutions. Here’s how you can deal with tooth discoloration.

What Darkens Your Teeth

Soy Sauce: You might love using soy sauce in your stir-fry and to help flavor your rice, but soy sauce can also stain your teeth. The acid will also damage the enamel on your teeth.

Beets: Beets are a deep dark purplish-red, which can leave stains just as easily as soy sauce or coffee can. If you’re going to enjoy some beets, be sure to brush your teeth when you’re done.

Coffee: Although it’s tempting to treat coffee as a food group, it’s not a good idea. Even if you add plenty of cream and sugar, the coffee you drink that leave brown stains on your teeth. So if you’re trying to avoid tooth discoloration at all costs, then it’s advisable to limit your coffee consumption. The acid will also damage your teeth, and since you tend to sip at it slowly throughout the morning to help you wake up, it will stay in your mouth throughout the day, which only makes any staining problems worse.

Prevent Future Staining

Now that you know more about how your teeth get stained, you need to do everything you can to prevent future staining. Don’t over-chew anything that is too acidic, such as berries. When you’re sipping on a drink, try to use a straw. A straw can guide anything you’re drinking past the teeth. Then, once you’re done, go and rinse your teeth. Brushing your teeth after every time you eat is ideal, but it’s not always practical. If you’re drinking something besides water, keep sipping it to help your teeth avoid stains. Plus, you’ll hydrate yourself, and the more hydrated you are, the better you will feel!
