5 Foods That Will Make You Want to Brush Your Teeth

Many of us love to eat. After all, food is one of life’s simple pleasures. But no matter what your favorite food is, it’s important to take care of your teeth. Neglecting to brush them after every single meal is easy to do. As long as you strive to brush your teeth twice a day and mix in floss and mouthwash use, you should be fine. Here are some of the foods that will make you want to reach for your toothbrush.

Citrus Fruits

Oranges, lemons, and limes are commonly used for making juice. That’s because they are known as citruses. But the same citric acid that fills these delicious fruits can also wreck your teeth. That’s because, given enough time, they will wear down the enamel that protects your teeth and ultimately increase the rate of tooth decay that you might already suffer. Plus, the acid can irritate any sore spots you have in your mouth, which will give you even more pain.

Dry Fruits

Many other fruits can be dried out and including in snack mixes that you’ll give to your kids after they get home from school or one that you’ll set out during a weekend game night. The stickiness of prunes, raisins, and apricots can do as much damage to your teeth as candy or other forms of “junk food” that you are avoiding by having these snacks. There’s still sugar that can settle in the gaps between your teeth, even if you don’t have any that are unusually large.

Chips

Chips are another snack that many of us can’t get through the day without, no matter what it does to our diets. But chips, even those that aren’t made of potatoes, can still be starchy. All of that starch gets caught in your teeth as easily as salt, sugar, or acidic juices can. The starch eventually turns into sugar.

Bread

This item might confuse you. How can bread hurt your teeth? Besides the obvious point of bread that is too-old and now rock hard, Bread also has starch in it, so like the chips, the starch will turn into sugar. Brushing your teeth is a good idea.

Candy

Finally, try to stay away from candy. You don’t have to completely cut candy out of your life, but minimizing your exposure to special occasions can go a long way towards protecting your teeth.
